The People Behind the Legacy

Each legacy gift tells a story. Behind every planned gift is a life shaped by values, relationships, and a belief in caring for others. We are honored to celebrate the individuals whose thoughtful generosity continues to create homes and hope through Anne’s Place.

We invite you to read their stories and join a community of compassionate philanthropists who are helping build a stronger future, one legacy at a time.

Elliott Schiffmann

A generous legacy gift was made possible through the Elliott and Genevieve Schiffmann Trust, whose thoughtful philanthropy continues to support organizations dedicated to compassion, dignity, and service to others. Elliott H. Schiffmann lived a life defined by intellectual curiosity, scientific achievement, and deep commitment to others. A pioneering biochemist at the National Institutes of Health, Elliott helped advance the field of cancer immunotherapy through discoveries that contributed to new understandings of how the body’s immune system responds to disease.
Born in 1927, Elliott graduated from Yale University in 1948 with a PhD from Columbia University in 1955. His wife, Genevieve Schiffmann, graduated from the University of Chicago and was an NIH librarian.
Elliott devoted decades to scientific research and public service. Colleagues and loved ones remembered him not only for his brilliant mind, but also for his generosity, humility, and commitment to family and community. His life reflected a belief that knowledge and compassion should be used in service of others.
Through their thoughtful legacy gift to Anne’s Place, among many other charities, Elliott’s and Genevieve's values continue to live on in a profoundly meaningful way. Their generosity helps provide permanent supportive housing, dignity, and stability for individuals who have experienced homelessness and mental illness. We are honored to recognize Elliott and Genevieve Schiffmann as members of the Anne’s Place Legacy Circle and grateful that their compassion continues to create homes and hope for future generations.
