WINE WITH A PURPOSE: A WINE TASTING TO BENEFIT ANNE'S PLACE

Stories of how, when given time to flourish, both people and fine wines thrive

An afternoon of Wine Storytelling, and Hope

Please join us for a curated wine tasting guided by Rachel Loew Lipman, 5th-generation winemaker and Head Winemaker of Loew Vineyards

Drawing on more than a century of family tradition, Rachel will share the remarkable story of her family's winemaking journey across generations and guide guests through a tasting of Loew Vineyards' distinctive Maryland wines and meads. In a historic first for Maryland, all Loew wines and meads produced in the 2025 vintage are certified Kosher under either a Conservative hechsher or Star-K supervision.

Your benefit ticket includes a guided tasting experience and a complimentary bottle of wine to take home. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase additional bottles at a special event discount.

A portion of every ticket directly supports Anne’s Place and our mission to provide long-term supportive housing to individuals who would otherwise experience homelessness. Together, we can help create the stability, dignity, and sense of home that every person deserves.

Join us for an afternoon celebrating family legacy, community, and the power of home.

When: Sunday, August 30 | 4:00–6:00 PM
Where: Kalorama private residence. Address provided upon registration

Space is limited. Advance registration is encouraged.

Rachel Loew Lipman, Loew Vineyards
Rachel is one of the youngest head winemakers in Maryland with over ten years of experience in all aspects of the wine industry. She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2015 with two degrees--a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Crop Production as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. Additionally, she has earned a certification in Winemaking from Washington State University. Today, Rachel is the Head Winemaker and Director of Operations for her family's winery, Loew Vineyards, located in Mt. Airy, Maryland. As a fifth generation winemaker and as a 3G (grandchild of a Holocaust survivor), she believes she bears the responsibility to share her grandfather's story of survival and continue her family's legacy of over 150 years of making mead commercially in Poland. In effort to keep her family history alive, she has produced and named meads in tribute to family members that perished in the Holocaust. During Rachel's tenure at Loew Vineyards, she spearheaded a winery remodel, launched a Kosher wine and mead line to become the first Kosher wine production in Maryland, and created award winning wines and meads. In October 2023, Rachel was appointed and commissioned by Governor Moore to represent Maryland's Viticultural industry as a member of the Maryland Agricultural Commission. She currently serves as Vice-President for the Maryland Wineries Association's Executive Committee and serves as Vice President and Secretary for 3GDC.

MORE ABOUT THE WINERY:
Loew Vineyards, a boutique Maryland winery, the creation of William and Lois Loew was founded in the 1980s, but the family's journey in wine started in the mid 1800s in the Austro-Hungarian empire. There, the Löw (now Loew) family produced mead (wine made from honey). The family owned more than five prosperous meaderies and distributed their meads throughout Europe until the start of World War II. The family and their meaderies were lost during the Holocaust and William was one of the few surviving members of his large extended family. After the war, William emigrated to America. William and Lois met in Indianapolis and they married and had three daughters. In 1982, William and Lois acquired a 37-acre parcel in Maryland and planted vines. Today, Loew Vineyards is guided by the next generation, Rachel, who produces expressive, small-lot wines and meads that balances old world practices with modern techniques. In 2025 Loew Vineyards became the first and only producer of Kosher wines and meads under two separate certifications. Their goal is to remain small and focus on quality--protecting and furthering the family legacy.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
